RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Grand Canyon women's tennis team wrapped up its first road trip of the season Saturday with a 5-0 shutout at UC Riverside.
The Lopes (2-0) were impressive in their first dual matches of the spring with a 4-3 win over UC Irvine on Friday before the win over the Highlanders (1-4) on Saturday.
In doubles, GCU picked up the point with wins at the bottom two courts. Fifth-year senior
Autum Prudhomme and graduate
Fabienne Schmidt won 6-1 at Court 2 while freshman
Valentina Del Marco and senior
Jana Weiss won 6-1 at No. 3. Junior
Natasha Puehse and sophomore
Santa Strombacha nearly won at the top court but had their match left unfinished with a 5-1 lead.
The Lopes were just as dominant in singles, winning at the top four courts to close out the win. Puehse, at No. 1, dropped only one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win over UC Riverside's Hanh Pham. Strombacha put in a similar performance at Court 3 with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Up 3-0, the dual-match win was clinched by Schmidt with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. Moments later, Del Marco picked up her first collegiate singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 win over the Highlanders' Serina Saltzen.

Sara Rakim's matches at the bottom two courts were left unfinished.
The Lopes will be back in action next weekend with matches at Sacramento State on Saturday and a neutral-site match against Nevada on Sunday.
