Both Grand Canyon tennis teams will be in action this weekend with three matches on the docket.

The GCU women, fresh off two wins last week, will travel to Sacramento State on Saturday while the men take on Santa Clara on Saturday and New Mexico on Sunday in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The women are coming off a strong California road trip that featured a 4-3 comeback win over UC Irvine and a 5-0 shutout against UC Riverside. Fifth-year team captain
Autum Prudhomme had to battle back from a first-set loss and won 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 to clinch the win over the Highlanders. On the next day against the Anteaters, the Lopes took the doubles point and won the top four singles matches in the shutout.

GCU graduate
Fabienne Schmidt was named WAC Singles Player of the Week after picking up two wins at the No. 2 position last week. Against UC Irvine, Schmidt dropped the first set but battled back to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 against Jessica Tsukiji. A day later against UC Riverside, Schmidt clinched the dual-match win with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

The men also competed last week against UC Irvine, dropping the match 4-0. The Lopes lost the doubles point with defeats at Courts 1 and 3 while the Anteaters maintained momentum and took three singles wins at Courts 2, 3 and 5.

Loic Van Zeggelaar nearly finished a GCU win at No. 6 in singles, leading 7-6, 5-4 before it ended with the dual match being clinched. Lopes freshmanÂ
Martim Marujo was in a second-set tiebreaker at Court 4, leading his match 6-4, 6-6.
