After sweeping Southern Utah and Utah Tech on the road last week, the Grand Canyon women's volleyball team welcomes Seattle U and Utah Valley to GCU Arena for the final regular-season matchups. The Lopes are on a Division I-era streak of four consecutive sweep victories.
3 THINGS TO KNOW
- SENIOR NIGHT: GCU will celebrate Melalnie Brecka (graduate outside hitter), Hannah Eskes (senior middle blocker), Annabelle Kubinski (graduate middle blocker), Megan Taflinger (graduate outside hitter/libero) and Giorgia Turri (junior outside hitter) at Saturday's match against Utah Valley.
- ASSIST RECORD: Senior setter Klaire Mitchell broke the program's Division I-era record for assists in a three-set match with 46 last weekend against Utah Tech, giving her the top five Lopes performances in the three-set category.
- SEEDING BATTLE: Although the Lopes remain in a WAC fourth-place tie with UT Arlington, their sweep streak has allowed them to move within one game of third-place Stephen F. Austin with two regular-season games remaining at home.
SCOUTING SEATTLE U
- The Lopes opened the conference season with a 3-1 victory over Seattle U (25-18, 16-25, 25-17, 25-19), posting 63 kills, 60 assists and seven aces to the Redhawks' 37 kills, 34 assists and three aces.
- Seattle U took UT Rio Grande Valley (22-5, 11-1 WAC), the conference leader, to four sets (25-20, 21-25, 18-25, 22-25) last week by hitting .213 with nine blocks.
- Senior middle blocker Lauren McCabe leads the conference in blocks per set (1.11).
SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY
- GCU has gone 1-7 against Utah Valley at home, currently carrying a one-game losing streak after falling 3-0 to the Wolverines in last year's WAC Tournament.
- The Wolverines lead the WAC in aces per set (1.74), aces (155) and blocks per set (2.61). Utah Valley's ranks 21st in the nation in blocks per set this season.
- Utah Valley was on a nine-match hot streak before losing 3-1 to UTRGV last week. The Wolverines now sit second in the WAC standings, trailing UTRGV by one match.
LAST TIME OUT
GCU vs. Utah Tech
- GCU won its fourht consecutive 3-0 match for the first time in the Division I era, hitting .416 with 52 kills and nine aces against Utah Tech.
