The WAC softball champions will meet the Pac-12 softball champions when Grand Canyon plays host to Arizona State in a 6 p.m. Wednesday fall exhibition game at GCU Softball Stadium.
The fall slate offers a sneak peak at the Lopes' revamped squad with 11 new players joining the 10 returnees who helped claim GCU's first NCAA Division I tournament trip in May. The NCAA regional appearance capped a 39-16 season in head coach
Shanon Hays' first year at the helm.
The Lopes made a 20-win improvement last season, when they claimed the largest victory bump of any NCAA tournament qualifier and fourth among all Division I programs. GCU ranked 10th nationally in batting average (.328) and sixth for stolen bases per game (2.33) last season.
The Wednesday night game, with free admission, will mark the only off-campus fall game that ASU will play.
"It's really good being able to play a crosstown opponent like Arizona State and it helps get us better for the spring," Hays said.
ASU is coming off its first Pac-12 championship season since 2011 and also has 11 new players with 10 returnees under new head coach Megan Bartlett.
The Lopes will meet the Sun Devils again on Oct. 26 at ASU's Farrington Stadium. For GCU's full fall schedule, click
