Lopes, Wildcats meet for 1st time since 2020
The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming and diving teams will face off with Arizona for the Lopes' second meet of the season. Competition is set to take place at noon on Saturday at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson.
GCU last visited Arizona in 2020, which resulted in a close loss for the men with a two-day meet score of 1,127-1,299, and a tough battle for the women with a result of a 1,127-668 loss.
This year's Lopes teams are looking to build off multiple promising performances from the first meet of the season in Grand Junction, Colorado, including sophomore Vitaly Kostin, who showed his ability to compete in the freestyle and individual medley. On the women's side, sophomore Maria Chatzi placed second in the individual medley while senior diver Abigail Erickson took fourth on the 1-meter board.
For both of the Wildcats' teams, the meet against the Lopes will be their first competitions of the year.
