The Grand Canyon cross country team is set for its final meet of the season before the WAC Championships. The Lopes will compete at the Bronco Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara, in Sunnyvale, California, on Saturday morning.
It is the fourth and final regular-season meet of the season for GCU, which is coming off a two-week break from competition after last running at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson to end September.
"Both teams are coming off a strong performance at Tucson," GCU head coach
Paul Limpf said. "We have had two really good weeks of training and look to take that confidence into Santa Clara this weekend."
Held at Baylands Regional Park, the men's 8,000-meter run will start at 8:45 a.m. with the women's 6,000-meter run to follow at 9:30 a.m.
The Lopes will face a large event field with over 25 schools represented, including fellow WAC competitor Utah Tech.
"It will give both teams a look at some very good regional competition," Limpf said. "The course is typically fast, and both teams are looking to take advantage of that this weekend. On top of that, the weather is projected to be as perfect as it gets for cross country. We will look to take advantage of these conditions and build in our confidence heading into the WAC Championships in two weeks."
The WAC Championships are on the horizon, set for Saturday, Oct. 29, in Nacogdoches, Texas.
