The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team returns to Texas to compete against Tarleton (10-11, 2-4 WAC) on Thursday evening and Abilene Christian on Saturday night.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- The Lopes hold all-time series records of 2-0 against Tarleton and 1-0 against Abilene Christian (4-13, 1-4 WAC).
- Three Lopes players (graduate outside hitter Melanie Brecka, junior outside hitter Ashley Lifgren and senior setter Klaire Mitchell) posted double-doubles last time out against UT Arlington.
- Graduate outside hitter Megan Taflinger leads the Lopes in kills per set (3.5) and Mitchell holds the most assists per set (9.2) with both ranking second in the WAC in their respective categories. Freshman Libero Tatum Thomas leads GCU in digs per set (3.7).
SCOUTING TARLETON
- The Texans won out last week, overtaking Utah Tech (7-7, WAC 1-4) in four sets and Southern Utah (3-12, WAC 2-4) in five.
- Grayson Schirpik leads Tarleton in kills per set (2.9), Megan Hodges holds the most assists per set (6.7) and Ana Costas leads the team in digs in per set (4.0).
- The Texans fell in five sets to Texas A&M Commerce (7-14, 3-4 Southland) on Tuesday night.
SCOUTING ABILENE CHRISTIAN
- The Wildcats have lost four consecutive matches, and were swept by Southern Utah (3-12, WAC 2-4) and Utah Tech (7-7, WAC 1-4) last week.
- Ashli Edmiston leads ACU in kills per set (2.9), Madison Rohre has the most assists per set (4.7) and Logan Browning leads the team in digs per set (3.9).
- ACU holds third, its highest ranking in the WAC, for team attacks per set (35.40).
LAST TIME OUT
GCU vs UT Arlington
- The Lopes prevailed against the Mavericks 3-1 on Saturday after falling to UTA in five sets earlier this season.
- Brecka (17 kills, 10 digs) and Lifgren (16 kills, 10 digs) and Mitchell (52 assists, 18 digs) posted double-double performances.
- Middle blockers Hannah Eskes. a senior, and Alissa Uhlenhop, a sophomore, led the team in blocks, combining for eight.
