Lopes disperse for summer season

GCU summer destinations span from Alaska to New York
Grand Canyon baseball players are set to once again scatter across the nation to take part in summer ball action, with most leagues already underway.
The summer baseball schedule allows GCU players to gain more experience by facing off against fellow college student-athletes in various leagues across the country.
The collegiate summer ball landscape has shifted in 2021 due to last year's consolidation of Minor League Baseball. Some leagues — such as the Appalachian League and MLB Draft League — consist of teams and stadiums that were formerly a part of Minor League Baseball but have been reassigned to collegiate summer leagues.
GCU has one representative in the prestigious Cape Cod League in incoming pitcher Hunter Omlid. Joining the likes of Lopes alumni Jake Wong, Kade Mechals, Quin Cotton and others, Omlid will play against elite competition in the nation's top league as a member of the Bourne Braves. Omlid, a product of Boise State and Central Arizona College, will begin play when the league gets underway on June 20.
Jonny Weaver is headed to one of the newly-formed leagues in the MLB Draft League, home to some of the nation's top draft-eligible talent.
Another league converted from Minor League Baseball is the Appalachian League, and Tayler Aguilar and Homer Bush Jr. will participate in the league designed for rising freshmen and sophomores.
A mainstay in summer league baseball, the Northwoods League, will feature eight GCU representatives. Home to the largest crowds in summer ball, the Northwoods will be home to Josh Buckley, Dustin Crenshaw, Connor Markl, Blake Reilly, Vince Reilly, Jacob Wilson and incoming Lopes Ambren Voitik and Adrian Torres.
Other GCU players are bound for the West Coast League, the Expedition League, the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, the Alaska Baseball League, the California Collegiate League and the Wisconsin State League.
