Lopes sweep MPSF weekly awards

GCU's Enriques, Fischer named MPSF Players of the Week
Grand Canyon men's volleyball swept the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation awards in the final week of the regular season. Sophomore opposite Hugo Fischer was named MSPF Offensive Player of the Week while senior libero Avery Enriques earned MPSF Defensive Player of the Week. Enriques is the third Lope this season to earn the defensive weekly award.

Fischer led GCU with 10 kills in a 3-0 win over Concordia on Friday. The Verviers, Belgium, native finished the match with .444 hitting and only two errors on 18 attempts, as well as two blocks and two digs for 11 points.

Enriques recorded a season-high 13 digs and three assists in the final home match of the regular season against Concordia on Saturday, helping the Lopes to their second straight sweep over the Eagles. The Keaau, Hawaii, native also recorded six digs in Friday's 3-0 win over Concordia. This marks the first weekly conference award of Enriques' career.

Two other Lopes were named MPSF Defensive Players of the Week this season. First, sophomore Christian Janke won on March 1 after a 3-0 win over No. 1 BYU. Then, sophomore setter Heath Hughes won on April 12 for two road wins at USC.

GCU travels to Provo, Utah, this weekend to compete in the MPSF Tournament. The fourth-seeded Lopes face fifth-seeded USC on Thursday at 4 p.m. (Phoenix time).
