THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- FIRST GOAL: Redshirt sophomore forward Dani Babb, who tied for the team lead with four goals last season, scored her first goal of the season on Saturday against New Mexico State. Babb took a high cross from midfielder Marleen Schimmer to the back post and redirected the ball into the goal in the 61st minute.
- OFFENSIVE SEASON HIGHS: The GCU offense has been aggressive in its past two matches, setting season highs in shots and shots on goal in the last two games. The Lopes took 22 shots with 12 on goal against New Mexico State, passing the previous high of 18 shots, and put seven shots on goal in a 1-0 win over Utah Valley on Feb. 20.
- ONE MONTH OUT: Saturday's match against the Redhawks will be exactly one month out from the start of the WAC Tournament on April 13. GCU will host the tournament for the second time, last hosting in 2017. Seattle U has won the past two tournaments while Utah Valley won it when the Lopes hosted in 2017.
Seattle U has been on a tear recently, holding a five-match winning streak on top of a six-match unbeaten streak. The last loss came against Washington on Feb. 12. Most recently, Seattle U won two matches at Dixie State, including a 2-1 win in overtime on March 4. In conference play, the Redhawks have only allowed two goals in five matches.
The preseason WAC favorites in the coaches' poll are led offensively by forward Sydney Carr with three goals and seven points. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Madison Waguespack has allowed five goals this season while boasting a .844 save percentage and three shutouts.
