BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Grand Canyon women's golf team finished in sixth place at The Valley Invitational, co-hosted by CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly. GCU finished with a 934 total, ahead of WAC competitors Utah Valley and Dixie State.
The Lopes missed fifth place by just two shots Tuesday at Bakersfield Country Club. Cal Poly won the team title (908), followed by Boise State (914), CSU Fullerton (915), California Baptist (921), Colorado State (932) and GCU (934).
Junior
Madison Voisard headlined the tournament for the Lopes by tying for fifth place with a 227 score. She led the Lopes with 35 pars and added five birdies.
GCU junior
Payton Fehringer finished in a tie for 10th place at 230.
Freshman
Constanza Guerrero had the top single round for the Lopes, firing a 72 during the second round. She finished in a tie for 17th place with a 234 total.

Alexis Linam (244, tie for 41st) and freshman
Carly Strole (245, tie for 44th).
GCU is back in action on Feb. 15-16 at the Rebel Beach Invitational in Las Vegas.
Day 1 recap
Bakersfield Country Club yielded an average score of 80 per round for the field. The Lopes enter Tuesday's final round with a trio of players in the top 12.
Voisard led for much of the first round before ending the day in a tie for fourth place with a 152 total (8 over par).
Guerrero finished 36 holes in a tie for ninth place. Guerrero's second-round 72 was the team's top round of the day.
Fehringer recorded a five-stroke improvement in her second round and moved into a tie for 12th place with a 155 total.
Other Lopes scores included Jones (160), Linam (161) and Strole (161).
