Nine runs per game from the offense. Only three errors in four games by the defense. A three-to-one strikeout-to-walk ratio from the pitching staff.
Grand Canyon baseball made a first impression that it hopes is lasting by taking a 3-1 series against Missouri with a 10-3 Sunday victory at GCU Ballpark.
After starting last season by winning a series against Oklahoma State of the Big 12, the Lopes opened this season at 3-1Â by hitting .323 against an SEC team that ended last season on a seven-game winning streak.
"I was encouraged by the guys because it's so easy in baseball sometimes to just take a split," GCU head coach
Andy Stankiewicz said. "As a staff, we were curious to see what was going to show up today. It was fun to see that the energy in the dugout and in the field was fun and positive. There was no let-up."

Five GCU players hit .400 or better this weekend, including freshman left fielder
Ryland Zaborowski with multi-hit efforts in each game.
The Chandler (Ariz.) Basha High School graduate hit went 9 for 16 with five RBIs, three walks, a double and
a Saturday viral home run that cleared palm trees and 35th Avenue.
"It's definitely one of the best experiences ever," said Zaborowski, who went 2 for 4 with a walk Sunday. "Coach Stankiewicz did a great job of getting us ready and it paid off out there.
"My goal is just to put the ball in play and let the ball do the work. They're providing the power with the low-90s fastballs and throwing off-speed breaking balls. My job is to see it early, put in it play and the results came back positive all weekend."
Zaborowski is part of an impact Lopes freshman class that featured
Jacob Wilson's glovework at third base, where his diving fifth-inning stop following a Missouri two-run home run squelched a potential rally with GCU ahead 6-2. GCU designated hitter
Tyler Wilson went 5 for 12 with a .533 on-base percentage and freshman
Elijah Buries smacked an RBI double in his first at bat Sunday.
"I'm definitely encouraged by what the young guys are doing," Stankiewicz said. "It was cool to see them jump in the fire and get after it."

Lopes right-hander
Carter Young, a freshman from Casper, Wyoming, picked up the Sunday win in his first start. He opened the game with his only walk, but cleared it quickly with a pickoff play.
Using his fastball to get ahead and a curve and a change-up to keep the Tigers off balance, Young allowed four hits with three strikeouts in five innings.
"It's a dream come true," Young said. "I've wanted to come to Arizona for baseball for as long as I can remember. GCU made that happen. The adrenaline was going, especially in that first inning. Knowing that I have such a good defense behind me helped me settle down."
A bases-loaded balk plated the Lopes first run before a
Tyler Wilson RBI single put GCU ahead 2-0, leading to Missouri's first-inning pitching change. Â Lopes junior first baseman
Nick Hansen drew a bases-loaded walk in the third for a 3-0 lead and that was stretched to 6-0 in the fourth when senior shortstop
Channy Ortiz, who had a 6-for-15 weekend, started a three-run GCU rally with a leadoff single.
Missouri committed three errors, walked eight batters and hit four batsmen to cause much of its problems. The Lopes used a four-hit sixth inning to pull away at 9-2 after Buries' RBI double and a RBI single by sophomore
Tayler Aguilar, who went 5 for 11 with seven RBIs vs. Missouri.
"We did a good job of being patient," Stankiewicz said. "We said, 'Let's not try to muscle up with these guys because they're big and strong and physical.' We did a nice job of committing to contact and putting pressure on the defense. That's got to be part of who we are. Hopefully, guys buy into that and see that it's a successful way of creating team offense."
With 36 runs on the weekend, GCU posted its best scoring effort through a season's first four games since scoring 51 — including a 30-run game — in 2015.
The Lopes stick to the high competition with Oregon State, which has won the most national championships (three) in the past 15 years. The Beavers play a four-game series at GCU Ballpark from Thursday to Sunday.
