EL PASO, Texas — The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team traveled for the first time this season to break a first-place WAC tie with undefeated New Mexico State, but the Lopes will need to bounce back Tuesday to keep that tie after losing Monday's match 25-20, 20-25, 13-25, 20-25 at Memorial Gym.
"We are playing our first road matches against a quality opponent," GCU head coach
Tim Nollan said. "We have lots to clean up for tomorrow. Learning to win on the road is an important step for this team. I look forward to seeing how tomorrow plays out."

Giorgia Turri led the Lopes (4-1, 4-1 WAC) with a career-high 14 kills while adding 11 digs. Fellow outside hitter
Yeny Murillo, a senior, collected 13 kills for the Lopes while senior middle blocker
Kaira Moss added six kills and three blocks. GCU setter
Klaire Mitchell tallied 34 assists and had a season-high 20 digs while senior libero
K.J. Adams added 13 digs and three assists.
The Lopes took momentum from the Aggies in the opening set. From the first point, GCU led New Mexico State and hit a match-high .333 with Turri recording six kills.
The Lopes kept that momentum with a three-point run to start the second set. A five-point run, highlighted by a kill by Murillo and an ace by Adams, put GCU ahead 14-8. The Lopes kept a 19-18 lead, but the Aggies went on a five-point run to take control and closed out a 25-20 set win to even the match.
New Mexico State rolled into the third set, taking a 5-0 lead an kept control over the final two sets.
GCU looks to split the series with the Aggies when it returns to Memorial Gym on Tuesday for a noon rematch.
