Grand Canyon seniors
Yeny Murillo and
K.J. Adams earned WAC honors after their performances against Tarleton on Monday and Tuesday. Murillo earned Offensive Player of the Week while Adams tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
"Exciting for both Yeny and K.J. with their weekly honors," GCU head caoch
Tim Nollan said. "As much as we would like to celebrate weekly awards, it just shows how hard the team works for these kids. Yeny put together a great offensive performance and, in part, that was due to K.J.'s incredible defensive performance giving us those offensive opportunities. It is a great award for them both and we are looking forward to our matches in the upcoming weeks."
Murillo, a Andalucia, Colombia native, finished the week averaging 5.14 kills per set to lead the conference and rank fourth in the country in that category. Murillo tallied 15 kills on Monday to lead the Lopes to a straight-set win. She also finished with 21 kills to average 5.25 kills per set on Tuesday as GCU took the match in four sets. In addition, the senior tacked on 16 digs and one solo block over the two matches.
Adams averaged a WAC-best 6.43 digs per set, which is also good for second best in the nation, as the Lopes swept Tarleton last week. On Monday, Adams posted 21 digs to average 7.0 digs per set. She backed up that performance with a 24-dig outing on Tuesday to average 6.0 digs per set while adding two service aces.
GCU is back in action on Monday, Feb. 8
, against Dixie State at 7 p.m. in GCU Arena.
