The Grand Canyon beach volleyball program released its spring schedule, coming off its third 18-plus win season since
Kristen Rohr became head coach in 2016.
The Lopes spent all but one week in the top 10 of the American Volleyball Coaches Association and Collegebeachvb.com polls last season. GCU picked up ranked wins over Arizona State (twice), No. 10 TCU, No. 20 Tulane, No. 13 Arizona, No. 16 Long Beach State (twice) and No. 10 California.
"We are really excited for our season," GCU head coach
Kristen Rohr said. "We are working everyday to improve our game and have also spent a lot of time on becoming mentally tougher athletes. We have a great line up of teams and get to go to some pretty awesome places."
The Lopes open the season at home with the Canyon Classic, which includes Boise State, Arizona State and Arizona.
"We are hosting five events with some solid teams, including such teams as Arizona, ASU, Utah, Boise State, Oregon, Stanford and more and we will be traveling to USC and Gulf Shores (Alabama) to play a handful of the top East schools, Arizona, Hawaii and Stanford," Rohr said. "It's exciting to look forward to a little more of a normal spring without travel limitations."
On the first weekend of March, GCU will play in a tournament hosted by reigning national champion USC to take on five top-notch teams, including USC, UCLA, Cal Poly, Long Beach State and Stanford.
On March 18-19, the Lopes head back to Gulf Shores for the annual March to May tournament, hosted by UAB for great competition against LSU, Florida State, Tulane, UAB and Stetson.
April competition begins with a trip to Hawaii on April 9-10 for weekend duals against Hawaii and Loyola Marymount.
The final two weekends of the regular season include a trip to Tucson to face Arizona, Long Beach State and Southern Mississippi, followed by a trip to Palo Alto, California, for a tournament with Stanford and California.
