Grand Canyon beach volleyball signed Arizona native Justine Spann, a graduate transfer who led Colorado's indoor volleyball team in kills and aces last season.
Spann, a Chandler Basha High School graduate, returns to the Valley to move to the sand as a fifth-year player after starring for the Buffaloes as a 5-foot-8 outside hitter on the hardcourt. In her

senior season, Spann led the team in kills per set (3.57) and aces per set (0.28). She also recorded 209 digs, 44 blocks and 14 assists.
"We are excited to welcome Justine back to Arizona and have her join our Lopes family," GCU head coach
Kristen Rohr said. "She is a great athlete who will bring leadership and a ton of experience at a high level. She's not afraid to work hard and push everyone around her to be better."
Spann became an essential player for the Buffaloes throughout her career. After appearing in 17 matches as a freshman and recording two starts as a sophomore, she had a breakout season as a junior when she started every match. She ranked second on the team with 366 kills and third in digs with 328. As a senior, Spann was named Co-Most Valuable Player of the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge and made the all-tournament teams for the Buffs Invitational and Colorado Classic.
"I couldn't be more proud of Justine's growth as a player and a person during her four seasons as a Buff," Colorado head coach Jesse Mahoney said. "I'm excited for her to be able to continue her volleyball journey at GCU. She has all the tools to be an outstanding player on the beach and I expect her to do great things there."
At Basha High, the three-time captain received several accolades in her final season, she was an azcentral Female Athlete of the Week and was named to the Nike Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Athleticism runs deep in the Spann family. Her mother, Terri, was a four-year starter and All-Pac-10 outside hitter for Arizona State volleyball and is head coach at Basha, the reigning Arizona Class 6A champions, and club director for Arizona Storm. Spann's father, Creig, played wide receiver for ASU football.
