The Grand Canyon track and field team will compete at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic this Friday and Saturday for the Lopes' second stop of the season in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
This weekend's meet marks the second of four Albuquerque visits for GCU, which will return there next week for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational and again in March for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The Lopes are coming off a successful weekend as they broke three GCU records during a split-squad weekend at meets in Flagstaff, Arizona, and Houston. The Lopes also received a trio of WAC Athletes of the Week honors, including
Grant Carpenter,
Niki Xydona and
Paige Hildebrandt from their outstanding performances in Houston.
GCu will not bring many distance athletes to this week's meet, as they will be competing next weekend at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
Strong performances are continued to be expected from thrower
Jorden Okyere and pole vaulter
Alyson Schwartz, as well as senior sprinter
Symone Wright-Flowers and Xydona and Carpenter, GCU's top multi-athletes.
The Lopes are more than halfway done with their regular indoor season, building toward the Feb. 28-29 WAC Indoor Championships in Nampa, Idaho.
