KANSAS CITY — The Grand Canyon women's basketball team moved into sole possession of first place in the WAC with a thrilling 62-56 win at Kansas City on Thursday night.
The Lopes (13-8, 8-2 WAC) won their sixth consecutive game by outscoring the former conference leaders 21-7 in the final quarter, after the Roos (15-10, 8-3 WAC) outscored GCU in each of the first three quarters.

Jada Holland put the Lopes on her back, scoring 15 of her 18 points during the fourth-quarter blitz. Holland made 4 of 5 shots from 3-point range.
GCU trailed 49-41 to start the final quarter but Holland started the scoring with a 3-pointer, setting the tone for the Lopes.
After a
Venla Varis 3-pointer at the 8:23 mark, the Lopes tied the game at 49-49. Kansas City led 56-51 with 4:57 remaining, only to get shut out the rest of the way by the stout GCU defense.
As Holland scored 12 consecutive Lopes points, GCU went on an 11-0 run to finish the game. The run included Holland drawing an offensive foul and hitting a pair of 3-pointers.
