The Grand Canyon women's soccer 2020 signing class grew on Thursday with the addition of Overland Park, Kansas, native Jaylie Hicklin.
Â
"Jaylie is a very intelligent soccer player who understands and comprehends team tactics and our style of play," GCU head coach
Chris Cissell said. "Jaylie is a central midfielder who has the great ability to distribute and pass the ball very effectively and she is a strong, aggressive ball winner in the midfield. Jaylie will be a great addition to our awesome GCU soccer family on and off the field."
Â
Hicklin will be the third attacking style player to join the Lopes for the fall of 2021. Hicklin is a multi-sport athlete for Blue Valley Southwest High School, playing three years of soccer and basketball so far, along with two years of track and field for the Kansas City-area school.
Â
Jaylie chose GCU because "of the amazing coaching staff and the family environment that they have instilled in the program." She is interested in majoring in Biology with an emphasis in pre-med, hoping to become a doctor or an orthodontist.
Â
As a freshman, Hicklin left her mark early on Blue Valley Southwest with a 2018 5A state championship game goal that secured a 2-0 win. As a sophomore, the 5-foot-8 midfielder led the team with 10 goals and was named to the 5A all-state second team and All-Eastern Kansas League second team as the Timberwolves captured their second straight league championship.
Â
Hicklin also was named basketball team captain and finished in the top 30 of the 2017 and 2018 state cross country meets.
Â
Hicklin also played soccer for the Sporting Blue Valley club, competing in the GA, ECNL and DA since 2015.
