Lopes host first conference match at Antelope Gymnasium

The Grand Canyon men's volleyball opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play on Saturday night against No. 9 Stanford. The Lopes host the Cardinal at 6 p.m. in Antelope Gymnasium. GCU looks to extend a six-match win streak after taking down Benedictine in straight sets at home on Wednesday.

The match will be streamed live on the G CU TV.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

PUTTING UP STATS: The Lopes rank in the top 10 nationally in five categories. GCU ranks fifth in assists per set at 12.07, sixth in aces per set at 1.97, seventh in kills per set at 12.93 and ninth in hitting percentage (.318) and winning percentage (.778).
WINNING WERLE: Head coach Matt Werle became the winningest coach in program history on Jan. 17 with a win over Park. The fifth-year coach passed former head coach Jeremy Price, who previously held the record with 68 wins.
SETTING RECORDS: Junior middle blocker Ian McLain tied the GCU individual match record for hitting percentage on Jan. 18 in a win over UC San Diego. McLain hit .857 to help the Lopes to a 3-1 win over the Tritons.

SCOUTING

Stanford is ranked No. 9 nationally with a 4-3 record. The Cardinal opened the season with back-to-back home sweeps of Menlo and UC Santa Cruz. The Cardinal's first loss of the season came on the road, falling 3-2 to Saint Francis. Stanford went 2-0 at the AVCA Showcase against NJIT and George Mason, but is on a two-match losing streak after falling to No. 7 UC Irvine and No. 3 UC Santa Barbara.

The Cardinal is led offensively by junior opposite Jaylen Jasper, who has recorded 82 kills to average 3.73 per set.

GCU trails 6-0 in the series, falling last on April 6 at home.
