The Grand Canyon beach volleyball team ranks No. 15 nationally in the Collegiate Beach Volleyball Preseason Poll by DiG Magazine.
"In the poll, it is nice to be top 15, but it is also a motivation factor," GCU head coach
Kristen Rohr said. "We finished 14th last season and it is always our goal to climb up the ranks and make it to the top eight to compete at nationals."
GCU finished the previous three seasons in the national top 20: 12th in 2017, 18th in 2018 and 14th in 2019.
"In the past, we always had an underdog mentality," Rohr said. "We are getting to a point where we don't feel like we are underdogs, but we need to continue to prove that we belong in the top eight."
The Lopes begin their season on Feb. 22 in Moraga, California, where they will face No. 10 California and Saint Mary's.
"This year, with the experience, leadership and talent, we have a legit shot of finishing higher than we ever have," Rohr said.
