Grand Canyon women's basketball added
Sydney Crafton to its staff as an assistant coach.
Crafton joins Lopes head coach
Nicole Powell's staff after four seasons as an assistant coach for Western Illinois. She oversaw that program's facility and visiting team schedules, community service opportunities and special events while assisting with all aspects of the basketball side.
"We are very excited to have Sydney joining our staff," Powell said. "She is going to bring so much to our program with her knowledge of the game and ability to connect with players. Her experience, as a coach and a player, is going to complement our coaching staff really well."
With the Leathernecks, Crafton coached a pair of All-Summit League honorees and two All-Newcomer players while also helping the 2016-17 team to the Summit League regular-season and postseason championships and the program's first NCAA tournament appearance in 22 years.
"I'm very familiar with Powell's playing career so when the opportunity presented itself I immediately reached out," Crafton said. "Powell, along with the staff, shared their vision for the program and I was sold. It is something that I can help contribute to with my background and something I want to be a part of."
