HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. – Three Grand Canyon beach volleyball pairings competed in the USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships on Thursday.
Sophomore
Bella Bauman and junior
Jessica Stansfield took second place in Pool A by taking down their opponents from LSU, while freshman
Teagan DeFalco and senior
Mikaela Raudsepp came back to finish third in Pool G with a win over two Florida State student-athletes.
Bauman and Stansfield took down Toni Rodriguez and Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope of LSU 21-13, 16-21, 15-7. They then fell to Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss, also of LSU, 21-14, 22-20 to finish second in Pool A.
DeFalco and Raudsepp fell to Arizona State pairing Elly Lundberg and Katelyn Carabello 21-18, 15-21, 15-13. They faced off against Florida State's Kate Privett and Macy Jerger to compete for Pool G's third place, earning the win 21-16, 21-7.
Junior
Hannah Towne and freshman
Katie Hess competed in Pool H, falling to ASU duo Ashley Wenz and Oluoma Okaro in their first match of the day 21-15, 23-21. They then took on UAB's Jaelyn Keene and Tressa Buckland, coming up short 21-9, 21-17.
The competition concludes the season for GCU as a team, while DeFalco and Bauman will compete this summer as a part of the USA Volleyball U21 Beach team.
