GCU takes down Mt. SAC and UAB

Grand Canyon beach volleyball brought in two wins on the second day of the GCU Tournament. The No. 15 Lopes (18-8) swept Mt. San Antonio College (8-9) and took down UAB (13-12) to finish the weekend 4-1 at home

Vs. Mt. San Antonio College
The Lopes started the day off with a 5-0 sweep over Mt. San Antonio College. Senior Jamie Walsh and freshman Anaya Evans got the first win of the match on Court 4, taking down the Mounties 21-12, 21-6. Sophomore Taylor Jarzombek and Esmee Priem followed up with another win on Court 5, holding their opponents below 10 points in both sets to finish 21-8, 21-7.

Junior Hannah Towne and freshman Katie Hess secured the match win for the Lopes on Court 3, outscoring Mt. SAC 21-13, 21-6. Junior Jessica Stansfield and sophomore Bella Bauman grabbed a two-set, 21-11, 21-6 win on Court 2. Senior Mikaela Raudsepp and sophomore Teagan DeFalco finished the sweep on Court 1, taking down the Mounties 21-9, 21-13

Vs. UAB
Walsh and Evans started the Lopes off with a Court 4 win, taking down their opponents 21-13, 21-18. Jarzombek and Priem held the Blazers to nine points in the first set on Court 5 before battling to extra points in the second. The Lopes pulled through with the win, taking down UAB 21-9, 23-21.

Towne and Hess clinched the win for GCU with a 21-14, 21-9 win on Court 3. Raudsepp and DeFalco dropped the first match of the day on Court 1, falling 21-16, 21-16 to the Blazers. Bauman and Stansfield closed out the match with a win on Court 2, taking down UAB 21-18, 21-18.

The Lopes return to GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium for their final home match of the season on Sunday, April 14. GCU takes on Santa Clara at 11 a.m. in its 2019 senior day.
