Lopes take down Broncos 5-0

Grand Canyon beach volleyball closed out its home season with a sweep of Santa Clara on Sunday. The No. 15 Lopes (19-8) topped the Broncos 5-0 on their senior day for their 10^th sweep of the 2019 season.

Freshman Ava Elia and junior Micaela Mirabal won the Lopes' first match of the day on Court 4, taking down their opponents 21-16, 21-13. Sophomore Taylor Jarzombek and freshman Esmee Priem followed quickly with a 21-11, 21-13 win on Court 5 against the Broncos (2-13). Senior Jamie Walsh and freshman Anaya Evans clinched the match with a 21-17, 21-15 win on Court 3.

Senior Mikaela Raudsepp and junior Jessica Stansfield went on a 12-0 run to start their first set on the way to a 21-7, 21-10 win on Court 1. Junior Hannah Towne and freshman Katie Hess finished the sweep on Court 2, winning 21-8, 21-12.

Seniors Jasmine Hanna and Elizabeth Kloos teamed to win the exhibition match 21-10, 21-17.

The Lopes return to action on Thursday in Los Angeles when they face No. 2 USC at 1 p.m. before taking on No. 7 Cal Poly for the second time this season at 5 p.m.
