The 15th-ranked Grand Canyon beach volleyball team completes its regular season this week with four top-10 opponents in Los Angeles, starting with No. 2 USC and No. 7 Cal Poly on Thursday before facing No. 1 UCLA and No. 10 Long Beach State on Saturday.
GCU (19-8) kicks off the weekend with its second-highest ranked opponent, No. 2 USC, at 1 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans are 22-4 this season with a six-match winning streak. USC leads the series against the Lopes 6-0, with the most current matchup taking place on April 17, 2018, when the Trojans topped GCU 3-2 in Los Angeles.
The Lopes continue Thursday's competition with a 5 p.m. matchup versus No. 7 Cal Poly. The Mustangs are 19-8, including wins over No. 9 South Carolina and No. 6 Hawaii. The two teams will face off for the second time this season after Cal Poly won the last match 3-2 to lead the series 2-1.
GCU returns to action Saturday to take on the No. 1 program in the nation, UCLA. The teams face off at 9:30 a.m. UCLA Is 26-1 this season after taking its first loss to USC on April 7. The Bruins lead the series against the Lopes 2-0 with the last competition between the two teams taking place on March 31, 2018.
The Lopes close out the weekend and their regular season on Saturday against No. 10 Long Beach State at 12:30 p.m. The Beach is 17-7 this season with a two-game losing streak from defeats to USC and California last week. Long Beach State leads the series against the Lopes 4-1.
