LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Junior
Carolina Sandstrom of the Grand Canyon women's golf team finished runner-up at the WAC Championship on Saturday at Oakbrook Golf Club.
The Lopes came up short in attempting to repeat as WAC team champions. GCU finished nine shots behind champion New Mexico State and took fourth place. The Lopes led the three-day, 54-hole tournament as late as their midway point on Friday.
New Mexico State won in a playoff over Seattle U for the championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Dominique Galloway of NMSU won medalist honors with a total of 214, followed by Sandstrom (217) and Utah Valley's Carley Dehlin Hersch (218). GCU sophomore
Siripatsorn Patchana (219) tied for fourth place with two others.
Making a run for WAC Freshman of the Year honors (to be voted on next week), GCU's
Payton Fehringer finished in a tie for 12th place with a total of 224.
Also for GCU, sophomore
Alexis Linam finished in 31st place (234) and junior
Courtney Vogel landed in 36th (235).
