Grand Canyon beach volleyball returns to GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium this weekend. The Lopes (5-2) host Arizona Christian (0-2), New Mexico (2-5) and San Diego City College (5-1) in their second home tournament of 2019.

GCU is 5-2 on the season after sweeping four matches last weekend in Fort Worth, Texas. The Lopes competed in the Horned Frogs Challenge and took down No. 17 Tulane, Missouri State, TCU and No. 16 Georgia State to finish the weekend undefeated.

The Lopes take on Arizona Christian in their first matchup of the weekend on Friday at 2 p.m. GCU has only faced off against the Firestorm once, taking them down on March 8, 2014, in Tucson, AZ. The Lopes outscored Arizona Christian 5-0 in their last meeting to lead the series 1-0. Arizona Christian is 0-2 in their inaugural season of beach volleyball.

GCU continues play against New Mexico on Friday afternoon, with first serve scheduled at 4:15 p.m. The Lopes lead in the series against the Lobos 7-0, having already defeated New Mexico once in 2019. GCU faced off against the Lobos at home on February 22, earning a 4-1 win. New Mexico is 2-5 in 2019 after picking up wins in their last two matchup's against Texas A&M Kingsville and Missouri Baptist.

The Lopes close out the weekend Saturday at 9 a.m. as they take on San Diego City College. The matchup marks the first meeting between the two teams. The Knights are 5-1 in 2019, earning wins over Ottawa and Santa Monica.
