GCU takes down Arizona Christian, New Mexico

Grand Canyon beach volleyball tallied its fifth and sixth consecutive wins on Friday at GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium. The No. 17 Lopes (7-2) took down Arizona Christian 5-0 and defeated New Mexico 4-1.

Vs. Arizona Christian

GCU started the day with a 5-0 sweep of Arizona Christian (0-4). Redshirt freshman Teagan DeFalco and sophomore Katie Sarber got the Lopes started with the first win of the day on court four, defeating the Firestorm 21-4, 21-6. Freshman Esmee Priem and sophomore Taylor Jarzombek followed up with a 21-12., 21-6 win for GCU on court five.

Junior Hannah Towne and freshman Katie Hess held Arizona Christian below 10 in both sets on court one, earning a 21-7, 21-6 win that secured the dual win for GCU. The court two and three pairings completed the sweep for the Lopes, with senior Mikaela Raudsepp and freshman Anaya Evans winning 21-10, 21-6 on court three and junior Jessica Stansfield and sophomore Bella Bauman winning 21-16, 21-7 on court two.

Vs. New Mexico

The Lopes' second victory of the season against New Mexico (2-6) began with victories on courts four and five. Evans and Sarber got the Lopes' first win at court four, taking down New Mexico 21-15, 21-13. Priem and Jarzombek followed with a 21-9, 21-12 win on court five.

Courts one, two and three all went to three sets afer the Lobos claimed first-set victories in each match. Bauman and Stansfield clinched the match with a three-set win on court two, topping the Lobos 18-21, 21-12, 15-9. Towne and Hess dropped the Lopes first court of the day, falling 21-14, 14-21, 15-11. Raudsepp and DeFalco finished the day with a 18-21, 21-12, 15-4 win on court three for a 4-1 Lopes win.

The Lopes are back at GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium for a 9 a.m. dual Saturday against San Diego City College.
