The Grand Canyon women's basketball team closes its 2019 regular season at home with a pair of games on Thursday night and Sunday afternoon inside GCU Arena, as the Lopes (6-18, 4-10 WAC) host Utah Valley (14-13, 8-6 WAC) and Seattle U (1-26, 1-13 WAC). GCU is looking for the season split with Utah Valley and the sweep of Seattle U after beating the Redhawks by one in triple overtime in January.
The Lopes are led offensively by senior center
ShaRon Miller, who averages 10.0 points per game. Redshirt senior forward
AJ Cephas (9.9 ppg) and freshman guard
Laura Piera (8.9 ppg) round out GCU's top scorers.Â
Scouting Utah Valley
The Wolverines and the Lopes meet for the second time this season, as UVU won the first contest, 57-46, in Orem. Utah Valley is 8-6 in conference play and 14-13 overall to rank fourth in the WAC.Â
UVU has WAC wins over GCU, CSU Bakersfield, Seattle U (2), UT Rio Grande Valley (2), Chicago State (2), while the Wolverines were swept on the season by New Mexico State, Kansas City and California Baptist.Â
Utah Valley is led offensively by Jordan Holland, who averages 13.6 points per outing. Two other UVU players are in double-digits, as Eve Braslis is at 10.6 points per game and Alexis Cortez is at 10.0 points per game. Off the glass, Holland leads the Wolverines at 6.4 rebounds per game while Braslis (5.9) and Cortez (4.9) are right behind.
Scouting Seattle U
The Lopes and the Redhawks close the 2019 regular season on Saturday and GCU is looking for the season sweep of SU. The pair played through triple overtime in the opening weekend of WAC play, as the Lopes came away with the 74-73 win after 70 minutes of play.
Seattle U has one win in 27 games this season, as the Redhawks downed Chicago State at home, 90-54. After winning the WAC tournament last season, the Redhawks graduated a number of leading scorers.
SU is led offensively by Kamira Sanders (13.5 ppg), Joana Alves (13.3 ppg) and Courtney Murphy (12.6 ppg). On defense, Sanders (6.1), Alves (5.4) and Olivia Crawford (3.9) lead the Redhawks in rebounds per game.
