No. 19 Lopes finish 4-0 at Horned Frogs Challenge

FORT WORTH, Texas – Grand Canyon beach volleyball finished its sweep at the Horned Frogs Challenge with two more wins Saturday. The No. 19 Lopes (5-2) took down host TCU (4-3) and No. 16 Georgia State (4-4) to finish the weekend 4-0 in Fort Worth.

The Lopes kicked off Saturday with their third win of the Horned Frogs Challenge, pulling out a 3-2 win against TCU.

Senior Jamie Walsh and redshirt freshman Teagan DeFalco remained undefeated on the season Saturday, starting with a 21-16, 21-15 win to open the TCU dual on court five. Freshman Esmee Priem and sophomore Taylor Jarzombek increased the Lopes' lead to 2-0 with a win on court four, downing the Horned Frogs 21-15, 21-17.

The combo of freshman Anaya Evans and senior Mikaela Raudsepp dropped GCU's first match of the day on court two, falling 21-14, 21-18. The Lopes responded on court one, securing the third match win to clinch the dual with a 21-19, 20-18 victory from junior Hannah Towne and freshman Katie Hess. Sophomore Bella Bauman and junior Jessica Stanfield suffered their first loss of the season on court three, narrowly falling 23-21, 19-21, 20-18.

The win improved GCU's all-time record against the Horned Frogs to 3-0.

No. 16 Georgia State
GCU pulled through with a 3-2 win over the Panthers, pushing three matches into an extra set.

Priem and Jarzombek got the Lopes started with the first court win, taking down their court four opponents in extra points, 22-20, 22-20. Walsh and DeFalco followed with another win on court five, pulling through in three sets to put the Lopes up 2-0.

Raudsepp and Evans gave the Panthers a chance, dropping their court two match 21-14, 21-18, but Bauman and Stansfield came back to secure the dual win for the Lopes in a three-set victory on court three. The duo rebounded after falling in their second set, finishing a 21-15, 18-21, 15-10 win over Georgia State. Hess and Towne also went into three sets, but fell to the Panthers on court one, 21-23, 21-13, 15-10.
