McInelly sets new team record

The Grand Canyon men's and women's swimming teams completed Day 1 at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational at Cleveland State with the men in fifth place and the women tied for 29th place.

Marina McInelly set a new team record for the Lopes as the sophomore from Gilbert, Ariz., finished 11th overall in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 28.23.

Freshman Mazen Shoukri qualified for two A-Final events, finishing sixth in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 22.22 seconds and eighth in th 50 freestyle (20.65). Florent Janin finished sixth in the 50 freestyle A-Final with a time of 20.37

Freshman Samuel McKenzie finished fourth in the 50 butterfly A-Final with a time of 21.96.

In the 50 backstroke A-Final, Kainan Coerin finishes fifth with a time of 22.38.

Asahi Nagahata placed 10th in the 50 breaststroke A-Final with a time of 25.67.

In the 200 freestyle relay, Shoukri, McKenzie, Cameron Carney and Janin finished fourth with a time of 1:20.78.

Coerin, Nagahata, Shoukri and Carney finished eighth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:18.56.

Saturday's swimming events will go as scheduled below. Each event will begin at 6:30 a.m. (Phoenix time) with the finals at 3 p.m. (Phoenix time).

Friday
400 individual medley (Preliminaries and finals)
100 butterfly (Preliminaries and finals)
200 freestyle Preliminaries and finals)
100 breaststroke (Preliminaries and finals)
100 backstroke (Preliminaries and finals)
200 medley relay (Timed final at night)

Diving
Diving scores from the 2019 NCAA Zone meets will be utilized in the team scoring. No diving will take place during the three days in Cleveland.

Ticketing and seating information
Tickets are available for purchase online. An all-session pass is $50 online while single-session tickets are $10 online. Online ticket sales will end Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Tickets will be available for purchase on site in the P.E. lobby outside the natatorium with cash or credit card on each day of the meet. If purchased on site, an all-session pass will be $60 while single session tickets will be $12.

All seating is general admission. Doors will open one hour prior to each session. The natatorium will be cleared between sessions, and spectators may not leave items between sessions. Fans may not access the pool deck.

Will Call will take place in the P.E. lobby and will open Thursday at 8 a.m. Will Call will remain open whenever ticket sales are occurring.

Heat sheets will be available for $2.

Parking
Fan parking for Thursday will be available in Cleveland State's Central Garage (entry on East 21st Street just south of Chester Avenue). Parking will be $2 for the first hour and $2 for every two hours thereafter. After parking, walk east on Chester Avenue or Euclid Avenue for two-tenths of a mile.

Fan parking for Friday and Saturday will be available in Cleveland State's East Garage (entry from eastbound Chester Avenue at East 25th Street). Parking will be $10 per day with in-and-out privileges.
