Sierra Smith was named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes Division I student-athletes with notable achievements in the areas of community, classroom, character and competition.Â
Â
Smith is one of 30 candidates selected by the national award's committee. The list will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season and those names will be put on an official ballot for vote by media, coaches and fans. A native of Waddell, Ariz., Smith holds a 3.79 grade point average as a Business Management major and is scheduled to graduate in April. Smith is a three-time All-WAC Academic Team honoree and helped the Lopes to the nation's top GPA in collegiate softball in 2016 and 2018.Â
Â
This season, Smith owns the Lopes second-best batting average at a .376 clip with 32 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.Â

Â
She volunteered at UMOM New Day Center to help run a Winter Wonderland Festival in 2018, while also volunteering at the Miracle League of Arizona to help coach and encourage people with disabilities who were playing baseball.
