Cephas, Finke named Student-Athletes of Month

Grand Canyon student-athletes have their sights set on more than just winning on the competition field. With the help of the Academic and Student-Athlete Development staff, the Lopes are looking to provide leadership in the classroom and the community in addition to their roles on their respective teams.

| In the community Cephas has participated in over 20 hours of community service this academic year with the women's basketball team. Including volunteering the at Phoenix Food Day, Banner Thunderbird Toy Drive, Paul's Car Wash and with the St. Mary's Food Bank. Cehphas also spends her personal time volunteering at the Christown YMCA. |
In the community Finke has participated in his teams community service activities this academic year with the men's basketball team. Those activities include helping with the GCU Welcome Week, a Youth Clinic in the Bahamas, Paul's Car Wash and the Banner Thunderbird Toy Drive. Finke is also a member of the GCU SAAC Committee. |
| On the court In her first season with GCU, Cephas has started 18-of-19 games for the Lopes, averaging 10.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. While recording two double-doubles on the year, she posted a season-high 23.0 points against Chicago State on Feb. 16 and has found herself scoring in double-digits 11 times this season. |
On the court Finke led the WAC in scoring from Feb. 11-17., averaging 29.0 points on 75.8 percent shooting to go with 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as GCU went 1-1 on the week. Finke opened the week with a then career-best 36 points on 16-of-22 shooting (72.7 percent) against Kansas City on Feb. 14., while also grabbing nine rebounds and tying a career-high with five assists. The 36 points tied the WAC single-game high for scoring this season. Finke followed it up with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting (81.8 percent) and four rebounds in a win at Chicago State on Feb. 16., and a career-high 38 points, eight rebounds and six assists performance against Eastern New Mexico on Feb. 28. |
