Before heading back on the road for another three-game weekend series against a Power Five school, the Grand Canyon baseball team returns to Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark for a midweek matchup with UC Riverside. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Lopes and Highlanders renew a series that saw the sides split a pair of matchups in 2018. UC Riverside claimed a 14-inning win in March in Riverside, while the Lopes returned the favor at home with a 6-1 April win.
The game will stream live on GCU.tv with Michael Potter on play-by-play.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- AUSSIE AUSSIE: Freshman right-handed pitcher Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis is set to make his first collegiate start. A native of Canberra, Cooper-Vassalakis is one of eight Division I baseball players born in Australia. Combined with sophomore pitcher Coen Wynne, GCU is the only Division I team to feature two Australians. (AussieBaseball.com)
Â
- A CROWD TO REMEMBER: The debut of Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark Phase II brought a program-record crowd of 4,562 fans. The crowd marked the largest opening-day crowd in Arizona and ninth largest in the country behind seven SEC schools, one ACC school and Louisiana.
Â
- BACK AT BRAZELL: The Lopes have won four of the past five games at GCU Ballpark, dating back to two straight wins over Sacramento State to wrap up the home slate in 2018. The Lopes opened 2019 with a 2-1 mark, posting wins over Wichita State and Ball State while falling to No. 12 Stanford.
Â
SCOUTING
The Highlanders failed to hit the 20-win mark last season for the first time since 2015, going 19-33 and finishing last in the Big West Conference.
UC Riverside narrowly missed a series win at San Jose State last weekend, but the Spartans walked off with a 5-4 win in the rubber-match finale. The Highlanders dropped three of four games to Nebraska to open the season.
WHAT'S NEXT
- GCU heads back onto the road for a three-game series at USC.
- The Lopes return for a 12-game homestand with games against Nevada, Illinois, Xavier, Utah and California Baptist.
