The Grand Canyon women's golf team hosts the GCU Invitational this week at GCU Golf Course. The 20-team event will feature 36 holes on Saturday and a final 18 holes on Sunday. A shotgun start is slated for 8 AM.
GCU is joined in the field by Northern Arizona, South Dakota State, Montana State, Portland State, North Dakota State, CSU Bakersfield, Creighton, UC Riverside, Seattle U, Lamar, Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington, California Baptist, CSU Northridge, Hawaii, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, McNeese State and Toledo.
Portland State has won the GCU Invitational the past two seasons. Last year's individual title went to Kelly Hooper of Montana State.
Last week the Lopes captured the Battle at the Rock tournament hosted by UC Riverside. GCU won in dramatic fashion as the Lopes tallied six birdies during the final holes from various players.
Courtney Vogel led the Lopes in Riverside with a third-place finish. Vogel fired a final-round 69 and finished with a 217 (+1) total.
Carolina Sandstrom recorded a top-10 finish after leading for most of the first-round.
