GCU begins a three-game homestand on Monday night when UNLV visits GCU Arena for a 6 p.m. nonconference game.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- WAC-BEST SHOOTERS: GCU ranks 19th in the nation and leads the WAC in 3-point shooting percentage at 43.1%. Sophomore guard Venla Varis ranks 21st in the nation at 47.2%.
- SENIOR LEADER: Senior post Da'jah Daniel leads the Lopes with 13.4 points per game and tops the WAC with 9.7 rebounds per game.
- DROPPING DIMES:Â Freshman point guard Jada Holland ranks fourth in the nation and leads the WAC with 6.9 assists per game.
SCOUTING
UNLVÂ is off to a 3-5 start with wins over South Carolina State, St. John's and Pepperdine. UNLV and GCU have faced two common opponents in CSU Fullerton and Southern Utah. The Lopes (80-70) and Rebels (64-58) lost to Fullerton, while the Lopes defeated Southern Utah 69-65 and UNLV lost to the Thunderbirds 72-68 in overtime.
Senior 6-foot-2 center Rodjanae Wade leads UNLV with 14.4 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. Senior guard LaTecia Smith is the only other Rebel averaging double-figure scoring with 13.8 points per game.
UNLV head coach Kathy Oliver, a former 15-year head coach at UCLA, is 102-104 in 12 seasons at the helm in Las Vegas.
