The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team heads out on its final regular season road test of the year as the Lopes play at Seattle U on Thursday and Utah Valley on Saturday. GCU downed Seattle U the first time around and will look for the season sweep. The Lopes fell to Utah Valley at home and are searching for their first-ever win over the Wolverines.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- CONFERENCE BATTLE: GCU, the sole owner of the second-place ranking in the WAC standings, sits three wins behind conference leader New Mexico State, which is 11-0. The Lopes lead the conference in digs per set and digs per set for overall and conference-only competition at 15.6 and 15.38, respectively.
- ACES: Junior libero Teagan DeFalco leads GCU from the service line with 21 aces on the year. The pair of junior opposite Sarah Hagge and sophomore outside hitter Kayla Matthews are tied for second with 14 aces apiece.
- SETS LIVE: Freshman Klaire Mitchell is less than 200 assists away from reaching the 1,000-assist mark in her first season as a Lope. She averages 9.41 assists per set.
SCOUTING
SEATTLE U has just one win in WAC play over Chicago State, as the Redhawks downed the Cougars in four sets after losing the second set 25-15. Most recently, Seattle lost in straight sets to California Baptist, Utah Valley, UT Rio Grande Valley and New Mexico State.
In nonconference play, the Redhawks were 9-5 with wins over Southern Mississippi, San Francisco, New Hampshire, Holy Cross, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Montana State, Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside.
UTAH VALLEY is 5-5 in conference play and ranks fifth in the WAC standings. Among conference competition, the Wolverines claimed wins over UT Rio Grande Valley, CSU Bakersfield, GCU, Chicago State and Seattle U.
The Wolverines had a tough nonconference schedule and finished 3-9 with wins over Portland State, UC Davis and Utah State. UVU faced four top-25 ranked teams in the preseason.
LAST TIME OUT
- GCU was undefeated at home last weekend with a pair of four-set victories over Chicago State and Kansas City.
- The Lopes moved into sole possession of second place in the WAC with the win on Saturday over the Roos.
- With a team hitting percentage of .355 (49-11-107), the Lopes secured the fourth-best mark in GCU Division I history.

- The Lopes return home to host four straight conference games inside GCU Arena to close out the regular season, capped by Senior Day on Nov. 16.
