Lopes face Roadrunners, Lancers

The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team closes out a four-game road stretch this week at CSU Bakersfield on Thursday and California Baptist on Saturday. Following the pair of games, the Lopes will be halfway through the conference schedule and will have faced every member of the WAC once.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

CONFERENCE FOE: The Lopes are alone in third place in the WAC standings after a win against UTRGV and a loss to New Mexico State last week.
ON THE BLOCK: Sophomore Kaira Moss set the GCU Division I career record for solo blocks last Thursday at UTRGV, as the middle blocker tallied three to bring her career total to 29. Moss passed Hannah Hicks, who held the record at 27.
SETS LIVE: Freshman setter Klaire Mitchell ranks third in the WAC with 9.23 assists per set and has 637 on the season. In conference play, Mitchell also ranks third in the WAC at 9.43 assists per set.

SCOUTING

CSU BAKERSFIELD kicked off the season with a three-game losing streak at the Hornet Invitational, falling to Nevada, Sacramento State and Canisius. CSUB got its first win of the season against Fresno State before falling to Santa Clara and CSU Northridge.

The Roadrunners had back-to-back 2-1 showings at the Farmers State Bank Invitational and Roadrunner Classic, collecting wins over UTEP, Montana, San Francisco and UC Davis. CSU Bakersfield's pair of conference victories came against Chicago State and Seattle U.

CALIFORNIA BAPTIST opened the season with four losses before claiming its first win against Fairfield at the Pepperdine Tournament. The Lancers went on to a 2-1 showing at the SLU Lion Up Classic with wins over Jackson State and Southeastern Louisiana. In its final tournament of the nonconference campaign, CBU went 2-1 by beating Gonzaga and Southern Utah.

The Lancers downed Saint Katherine before beginning WAC play. CBU has conference wins over Chicago State, Utah Valley and Seattle U.

LAST TIME OUT

GCU split on the road with a win at UTRGV and a loss at New Mexico State.
The Lopes earned their fifth win over the Vaqueros in program history. Every win over UTRGV has come in four sets.
Sophomore Kaira Moss had a solid game at the net with three solo blocks and five block assists.

WHAT'S NEXT

GCU returns home to host Chicago State and Kansas City inside GCU Arena. The Lopes downed the Cougars and the Roos earlier this season in Chicago and Kansas City, respectively.
