Lopes look for road win
The Grand Canyon women's basketball team looks to get back on track on Saturday in Kansas City after falling on the road to Chicago State on Thursday night. The Lopes (4-11, 2-3 WAC) are 1-7 on the road this season and are searching for their first win over Kansas City (8-8, 2-1 WAC) since the 2016-17 season.
Senior ShaRon Miller continues to pace the Lopes offense and put up 20 points in the loss against the Cougars. Miller has nine double-digit performances this season, including three of 20 points or more.
Kansas City is an even 8-8 on the season and 2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Roos started WAC play with a pair of wins at Chicago State (111-58) and California Baptist (78-74), but lost on Thursday night at home to CSU Bakersfield, 67-57.
The Roos ended non-conference play with a 6-7 record and earned wins over Peru State, North Dakota State, Missouri-St. Louis, Loyola-Chicago, SIUE and Louisiana Tech. Last season, UMKC was 11-19 overall and 7-7 in WAC play. The Lopes lost to the Roos in both regular-season contests, the second in overtime in Kansas City.
UMKC faced eventual WAC Tournament winner Seattle U in the first round of the 2018 WAC Tournament and lost, 75-64, to end the season.Â
