Sasivarevic joins Energy FC

GCU's 1st-ever MLS pick signed by USL club
Grand Canyon men's soccer alumnus Amer Sasivarevic signed with Oklahoma City Energy FC, a club in the United Soccer League, on Wednesday.
Sasivarevic was GCU's first-ever MLS SuperDraft selection, going in the third round as the 57th overall pick to FC Dallas in January 2018.
"In college at Grand Canyon University, he did really, really well from an attacking perspective," OKC head coach Steve Cooke said in a press conference. "Amer was a very consistent, very hard-working, very hard-nosed defender who was decent with the ball as well."
Following his SuperDraft selection, Sasivarevic was a favorite to make the FC Dallas roster after impressing in preseason camp. Pro Soccer USA called him "a gritty player who is not afraid to get stuck into tackles and can provide a role offensively with his overlaps."
Sasivarevic was the final non-first round draft pick to continue to train with FC Dallas, but the club ultimately decided to sign a more experienced player to fill the roster spot.
Sasivarevic witnessed every step of GCU's transition to Division I, joining the Lopes in 2013 and finishing out as a fifth-year senior for GCU's first eligible Division I postseason in 2017. He appeared in 62 matches with 61 starts, the most among all GCU Division I players. Sasivarevic was an All-WAC honorable mention choice in his final season at GCU.
The USL is the second tier of professional soccer in the U.S., featuring Phoenix Rising FC locally. Energy FC is scheduled to play at Phoenix Rising on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019.
GCU hosted Sasivarevic's new club at GCU Stadium during the spring schedule on March 3, when the Lopes won 1-0.
