ShaRon Miller put up a career-best 24 points on a 9-of-13 shooting performance from the field and 6-of-8 accuracy from the free throw line, but the Grand Canyon women's basketball team came up short to UTRGV, 66-50, on Saturday at GCU Arena.

The Lopes (4-10, 2-2 WAC) and Vaqueros (8-8, 2-1 WAC) both closed the weekend with a conference split.

Miller was hot in the paint and off the glass, adding a game-high eight boards to her ledger.

Laura Piera added 14 points, four assists and three boards, while senior power forward
AJ Cephas had six points and six boards.

Miller made all six of her shots from the field in the first half, leading all players with 12 points and five boards to send the Lopes to the locker room with a 30-27 lead.

The Lopes were outscored 22-9 in the third quarter, including a 13-3 UTRGV run when the was game knotted, 36-36. GCU ended the third quarter trailing by 10, 49-39.

GCU cut the UTRGV lead to eight points, 49-41, with a layup from Miller to start the fourth quarter, but the Lopes were unable to come any closer and came up short, 66-50.

The Lopes take to the road for two games next week on Thursday and Saturday at Chicago State and Kansas City, respectively.
