The Grand Canyon women's soccer team begins its WAC schedule on Sunday as the Lopes travel to the Northwest to face Seattle U in a 1 p.m. match.
Scouting GCU (3-9)
The Lopes are looking for their first win against Seattle U since 2014, when they won 1-0 on the road. Since joining the WAC in 2013, GCU has a conference record of 24-27-6.
Senior goalkeeper
Abby Burton leads the WAC in saves with 58. She is also fourth in the conference in save percentage at .744. Senior
McKenzie Cook is pacing the WAC offensively with 50 shots taken.
Scouting Seattle U (2-6-2)
Last week, the Redhawks ended nonconference play with a 1-0 loss to Gonzaga at home and a 1-0 overtime loss at Portland.
Seattle U only has played two road games this season, including its season opener at Washington State and its most recent game at Portland.
SU has played in four overtime matches this season, which is tied for the second most in the WAC behind GCU and UT Rio Grande Valley. Seattle U has not scored a goal in the last 301 minutes of game time.
Junior Jessie Ray only has appeared in five games this season but she leads the team in points with 10 and goals with four.
Last season, Seattle U finished 9-8-4 and 3-2-2 in conference play. The Redhawks made a run to the final of the WAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed but lost to No. 2 seed Utah Valley in penalty kicks.
