Lopes surrender big inning in loss

Titans score seven runs in fourth
FULLERTON, Calif. - For the second straight day, Grand Canyon did not allow more than one run to score in seven of the game's innings. But for the second straight day, one big inning proved too much to overcome as the Lopes fell to Cal State Fullerton 10-2 on Saturday night at Goodwin Field.
The Titans used a seven-run fourth inning to turn a 1-0 GCU lead into a 7-1 deficit for the Lopes.
Offensively, Quin Cotton posted his fourth three-hit game of the season to lead the team.
GCU jumped out to an early lead by scoring in the first inning. Leadoff man Austin Bull led off the game with a double to the left-center gap and came around to score on an RBI single from Cotton.
Starting pitcher Mike Lundin faced just two over the minimum in the first three innings before hitting a snag in the fourth. Cal State Fullerton's big fourth inning featured seven runs on five hits, two walks, and a hit batter.
The Lopes' bullpen limited the Titans to three runs over their final four innings at bat. Coen Wynne, Nick Hull and Ben Kirke all saw action on the mound for GCU.
GCU scored for the final time in the eighth inning. A pinch-hitting Nate Gawelko drew a walk and came in to score on a two-strike, two-out RBI single for Ian Evans.
The Lopes will look to salvage one game in the three-game series when the teams play the series finale on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. with Jake Repavich (0-1, 8.78) scheduled to face righty Blake Workman (0-3, 5.11).
