Insider: Enriques to face brother

GCU freshman has 3 brothers playing Division I volleyball
For the longest time, Enriques vs. Enriques was reserved for the beaches of Hawaii or grandma's backyard.
This season, the four Enriques brothers who were high school teammates in 2014 are now Division I volleyball players who have begun facing each other. Addison's Concordia-Irvine team beat Emmett's Cal State Northridge team and Evan's Stanford team. Emmett's CSUN team beat Evan's Stanford team.
Now it's Grand Canyon freshman libero Avery Enriques' turn to join the family party. Avery and his 10th-ranked Lopes will play host to Evan's Stanford team at 4 p.m. Saturday in Antelope Gymnasium.
There might be court interaction, too, now that Evan, an All-American honorable mention last season, moved to outside hitter this season.
"He's really sneaky but hopefully we can get under him," Avery said.
The volleyball family starts with the brothers' parents. Their father, Guy, played at Hawaii-Hilo and coached their Hawaii high school powerhouse, Kamehameha, until retiring once Avery and his twin, Addison, graduated last year. Lopes players Cullen Mosher and Puna Kaniho also played there for the Enriques' dad.
The Enriques' mother, Julie, played volleyball at Oregon State and will be part of the throng of supporters on hand for Saturday's game.
"I can't wait to see a lot my friends and family," Avery said. "I can't wait to compete against Evan's team for the first time because I've watched them play. It'll be different to actually play against him."
Now that they are competing at the same level, the brotherly banter has begun. Emmett started it after beating Evan but then losing to Addison, which gave Evan reason to jump back in while Avery stays quiet.
"There will probably be stuff after, hopefully," Avery said. "I just have to see how it goes first. I'm not going to start something I don't know I can finish."
