The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team fell to Seattle U 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20 on Saturday in GCU Arena.
With the loss, GCU dropped to 10-12 overall and 3-7 in WAC play while Seattle improved to 9-14 overall and 2-8 in WAC play
The Lopes were led by freshman middle blocker
Annabelle Kubinski with 12 kills (.417 hitting efficiency). Junior outside hitter
Melody Horton added a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore libero
Teagan DeFalco recorded 17 digs and sophomore setter
Molly Feldmeth led the Lopes with 43 assists.
The Redhawks were led by Mila Duarte with 15 kills and Julia Queiroz with 12 kills and five blocks.
In the first set, the Lopes held the Redhawks to a .056 hitting efficiency. GCU scored seven of the final 10 points and won the set 25-20.
GCU had its most productive hitting in the second set. GCU connected at a .345 clip with only two errors. Seattle was a little better, hitting .433 with a 75 percent sideout percentage. The Redhawks won the set 25-16.
The Lopes struggled to find rhythm in the third and fourth sets. A combination of errors and improved blocking by Seattle put the Lopes on the ropes. The Redhawks claimed the sets with matching 25-20 scores.
GCU will have another shot at the Redhawks in Seattle on Nov. 15 during the final week of WAC competition.
The Lopes are back in action on Thursday night when they host UT Rio Grande Valley in GCU Arena.
