KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team dropped a conference match at Kansas City 25-20, 25-16, 25-12 on Thursday night.
The loss ended a two-match winning streak and sent the Lopes to 9-11, 2-6 WAC. UMKC improved to 15-8, 6-3 WAC.
GCU was led by junior outside hitter
Melody Horton and sophomore opposite
Sarah Hagge with seven kills apiece.
Freshman outside hitter
Kayla Matthews added six kills and seven digs. Sophomore setter
Molly Feldmeth had 23 assists, while sophomore libero
Teagan DeFalco had a team-high 13 digs.
The Roos hit at a .409 clip as a team for the match, led by Tyrecia Lukes with 13 kills and Alicia Harrington with 10 kills.
In the first set, UMKC scored seven of the first eight points. The Lopes responded by cutting the deficit down to 9-8 after a pair of Roos errors. A kill by Horton pulled GCU within 20-18 late into the set. The Roos, however, proved too tough and won the set 25-20.
GCU took a 6-4 lead in the second set after a Matthews kill. UMKC went on a 14-5 run to take an 18-11 lead before cruising to the 25-16 win.
UMKC started the third set on a 7-2 run. The Roos hit at a .542 clip and won 25-12.
GCU is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Chicago State.
