KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Grand Canyon women's soccer team closed out a two-game road trip with a 2-0 setback at Kansas City on Sunday after a pair of late goals decided the game.
Senior midfielder
McKenzie Cook tallied the lone goal for the Lopes, giving her five goals on the season.
GCU (5-12, 2-3 WAC) and UMKC (13-3, 5-0 WAC) battled through a scoreless first half and the game remained scoreless until the 77th minute. That is when the Roos used an offensive push to go ahead of the Lopes, 1-0.
Five minutes later, UMKC got another look on goal to go ahead, 2-0. GCU was unable to answer in the final 10 minutes of the game.
GCU senior goalkeeper
Abby Burton made six saves on the game.
The Lopes return to Phoenix for a pair of games this weekend against New Mexico State on Friday and Utah Valley on Sunday, when the regular-season home finale will feature a presentation for the GCU seniors.
