The Grand Canyon women's volleyball team swept Chicago State 25-15, 25-22, 25-19 on Saturday in Antelope Gymnasium.
With the win, GCU improves to 9-10 overall and 2-5 in WAC play while Chicago State drops to 8-15 overall and 2-5 WAC.
"We were very efficient offensively," Lopes head coach
Tim Nollan said. "With only nine errors today, we put a lot of pressure on Chicago State. We blocked well and Teagan (DeFalco) had a great match."
GCU held an advantage in every statistical category. The Lopes outhit Chicago State .316 to .047 and held an 11-2 advantage in blocks.
"We are continuing to get better all season," Nollan said. "We hit a little rut early in WAC, but we are getting comfortable. We are able to execute and score points. We are putting ourselves in good positions to win."
Kayla Matthews capped a big week with a double-double on Saturday. The freshman outside hitter had 16 kills on .556 hitting and added 11 digs.

The Cougars were led by Lauryn Dela Cruz with 12 kills. Megan Klavitter had 17 digs.
In the first set, GCU led 10-7 and went on a 9-4 run to take a commanding 19-11 lead after a Chicago State error. The Lopes closed out the set on a dig by DeFalco, who found an open spot on the CSU side of the net to finish the set at 25-15.
GCU fell behind in the second set and trailed 7-3. The Lopes chipped away at the early deficit and pulled even at 16 after a Matthews kill. Chicago State led 20-18, but the Lopes scored three straight points to lead 21-20 after a Horton kill. Matthews recorded the final kill for the Lopes at 25-22.
The third set saw the Lopes close strong. GCU trailed 18-17, but a DeFalco service run of five points capped by an ace pushed the Lopes ahead 22-18. The Lopes finished the set on an 8-1 run and won 25-19.
GCU is back in action on Thursday when it plays at Kansas City (14-8, 5-3 WAC).
