PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's basketball team looks to win its sixth-straight contest on Thursday, as the Lopes (7-8, 1-0 WAC) play in their first WAC road game of the season at New Mexico State (7-8, 1-0 WAC) at the Pan American Center.
GCU started conference play with a victory over Seattle U behind a 30-point performance from
Brie Mobley. After Thursday's matchup with the Aggies, the Lopes will continue the road trip at UTRGV on Saturday before returning home to the GCU Arena for the remainder of the month of January.

Scouting New Mexico State
New Mexico State is 7-8 on the year and 1-0 in WAC play, as the Aggies defeated Chicago State, 74-59, in the conference opener on Saturday. Earlier this season, NMSU lost its 2017-18 opener to Western Michigan before claiming its first win against UT Permian Basin. The Aggies split a pair of games by falling to New Mexico and defeating Texas A&M - Corpus Christi before suffering a three-game losing streak.
After the streak, NMSU downed UTEP and Pepperdine and lost to Arizona. The Aggies then split a pair of games at the Long Beach Classic as they beat Long Beach State and fell to Northeastern. NMSU closed out non-conference play with a win over Western New Mexico and a loss to UC Santa Barbara.
Last season, the Aggies were 24-7 overall and a perfect 14-0 in conference play. New Mexico State earned the No. 1 seed for the WAC Tournament, where the Aggies defeated #5 UMKC (71-63) and Seattle (63-48) to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. They lost in the first round to Stanford, 72-64, in the Manhattan, Kansas, regional.
